Kalani High educator named 2025 Hawaii State Teacher of the Year

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Congratulations, Bryan Silver! The Kalani High School teacher was named 2025 Hawaii State Teacher of the Year during a ceremony at Washington Place Tuesday.
The honor is presented annually to a classroom teacher selected from more than 13,000 Hawaii State Department of Education educators.
Silver teaches science and career and technical education (CTE), and created Kalani’s engineering CTE course. He also runs four after-school robotic programs, and developed three student-run businesses that generate funds to keep these programs solvent.
Silver also led the effort to create the Innovation Station, a mobile classroom equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters and other tools to make STEM resources accessible to students and teachers at different schools across Oahu.
“Our role as educators is evolving,” Silver said. “It is not just about imparting knowledge but also fostering curiosity and encouraging new ways of thinking. We are not called only to teach our students, but to learn from them.”
Silver will represent Hawaii in the National Teacher of the Year program. A national winner will be named this spring in Washington, D.C.
Silver was among 15 Complex Area Teachers of the Year and the Charter School Teacher of the Year celebrated Tuesday. They are, in alphabetical order:
